The Bristol Speaker
 Spring 2009 Newsletter

Membership in Toastmasters has helped me to gain the skills and confidence I need to effectively express myself in any situation.  Developing and giving prepared speeches has allowed me to become more skilled in presenting prepared topics during departmental meetings and work and school projects.  Acquiring these skills has also increased my confidence level and has stimulated my participation.  Participating in Table Topics has allowed me to develop my abilities to speak extemporaneously.  The skill to speak ‘off the cuff’ comes in handy, not only at work but also in less formal, social situations.  Attending Club meetings is always an enjoyable experience.  Our Club meetings are filled with humor, joy and good fellowship.  Club members are mutually supportive.  Borrowing a well known advertising tag line, “What Goes on in a Toastmasters meeting, stays in the meeting’.  I have found that membership in Toastmasters is a most affordable way of gaining great communication and leadership skills.  By learning to effectively formulate and express my ideas, I open an entirely new world of possibilities.  I’ve found that I am more persuasive and confident when giving presentations, and I have improved my one-on-one dealings with others.

Mike Okneski, ACB, ALB

Bristol Speaker meetings are held on Wednesdays from 11:45 to 12:45 in Building 22 of the East Syracuse BMS site.  Members are assigned roles as speakers, evaluators, and listeners (timer, grammarian, ‘ah’ counter).  Attendees that do not have speaking roles may be asked to participate in an impromptu table topic to practice improvisation.  The goal of the meeting is to have a full meeting and to have everyone speak.  Members work to fulfill roles to reach educational goals in the Competent Communicator (prepared speeches), Competent Leader, or Advanced manuals.  The club strives to improve membership, achieve club dues/training timelines, and reach an educational target.

For meeting location and time, please cick on the Directions link to the left.  Also, see our membership information for membership information page. Guests are always welcome.
